World Breastfeeding Week 2007

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Today is August 1, marking the start of World Breastfeeding Week.

Organised by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), this year’s WBW campaign emphasises the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding - within the first hour of life - to save children’s lives.   WBW brings together a concerted effort to promote immediate skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby after birth and a continued campaign to encourage exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby’s life.

Initiation of breastfeeding within the 1st hour of birth is a vital step towards reducing infant mortality.

Save ONE million babies - beginning with one action, one hour support and one message: beginning breastfeeding within the 1st hour of birth!
